Here's how that works:

A smile for the planet

Bunds, affectionately called “Earth Smiles,” are semicircular holes that collect rainwater.
They are dug by Justdiggit in project areas in Africa to collect rainwater that would otherwise flow away through the hard and bare topsoil. By digging bunds, large areas can be re-greened within a very short period of time.
This process prevents soil erosion, improves soil quality and cools the earth by storing CO2. Vegetation supports the cooling of the earth not only globally but also the local soil through shade and plant evaporation.
