Samsung Galaxy S20 FE difference to S20

In 2020, the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone series was supplemented with the Galaxy S20 model. A little later, the Samsung smartphone FE was introduced, which is cheaper than its predecessor. What is the difference between s20 and s20fe and what influenced the price reduction of the latter?

Design and display: s20 or s20 FE?

The design and casing of smartphones have significant differences, although both devices are IP68 certified. The back of the Galaxy S20 phone is made of Gorilla Glass, while the panel of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition flagship is made of matte plastic. The flagship Samsung FE's screen is flat with noticeable bezels, while the Galaxy S20 display model has beveled edges and practically imperceptible bezels. For screen protection, FE uses Gorilla Glass 3 instead of Gorilla Glass 6 like the previous version.

Exynos and Snapdragon processors

The FE model is available with several variants of RAM and built-in storage, while the flagship Samsung S20 is presented in a single version:

• The Galaxy S20 received 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB drive, expandable with a memory card.
• The Galaxy FE received 6 or 8 GB of RAM and a 128 or 256 GB drive, expandable with a memory card.

The smartphones have the same processor - Exynos 990, but the new flagship Galaxy FE is available in a version with a Snapdragon 865 CPU.

Thanks to the Qualcomm processor, the FE model has access to 5G. Snapdragon 865 is considered more powerful and has a frequency of 2.84 GHz. However, this version of the smartphone costs a little more than the Exynos 990 version. The older smartphone also has a 5G version, but with an Exynos processor. The smartphones have received a completely different front camera: 32 megapixels in the Fan Edition and 10 MP in the regular model, which will deliver photos with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 in the FE and 2592 x 3872 in the older model. The resolution in FE is higher, but the camera itself is simpler and there is no autofocus. Despite the big difference, both front cameras take good pictures, largely due to the software processing, which is carried out in the same way.

The main camera is also different; the Samsung FE 2020 is a configuration of the 12 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle module and an 8 MP telephoto lens. The regular model is equipped with a 12MP main module, a 64MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Both smartphones support 3x optical and 30x digital zoom.

The battery - the main advantage of the Galaxy S20 FE

The battery capacity is significantly larger on the FE model: 

• Samsung Galaxy S20 - 4000mAh 
• Samsung Galaxy FE - 4500mAh

At the same time, the Samsung S 20 supports the technology of 45-watt wired charging and 15-watt wireless charging, while the new product only has fast 25-watt wired charging.

Model s20 costs more than FE on average by 30%. The difference is clearly noticeable. So if very fast charging, an advanced camera and display resolution are not that important to you, you should probably pay attention to the Fan Edition model.
